Colon Hydrotherapy

Constipated? Bloated? Gas? Overweight? Skin Issues?
When was the last time you gave your colon an Internal bath?

Colon hydrotherapy, is a safe, effective method of removing waste from the large intestine, without the use of drugs. By introducing filtered and temperature regulated water into the colon, the waste is softened and loosened, resulting in evacuation through natural peristalsis. This process is several times repeated during a session.

The colon is a 4-layer muscle, 5 feet long and 2-3 inches in diameter. Like any muscle if it is not toned and working efficiently it will become sluggish and not work at an optimum level.  If you are not eliminating about 12-18 inches at least once per day, then your colon is not working efficiently and you may be constipated.

Waste that remains too long in the intestines feed harmful bacteria causing putrefaction and fermentation which can cause symptoms such as gas, bloating, headaches, fatigue and skin problems to name a few. These waste products can also be reabsorbed into the blood stream, liver and kidneys.  Over time this can lead to more serious health problems.

What to Expect

Relax and Let Go

Avoid putting any agendas, protocols, or conditions on yourself or the colonic. Be prepared to receive and experience. Give yourself time and space to appreciate what you are doing for yourself, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Many clients choose the colonic service as a means to just let go of some of the stress of their fast-paced lifestyle in a comfortable and clean environment.
Your first visit will take an hour and a half. The colon hydrotherapist begins by reviewing your Intake Form which is found on the website. The Intake Form provides us with information we need to understand your colon health, digestive needs and verify that it is safe to provide you with this procedure. Individualized colon health education will be provided, and any of your questions or concerns will be addressed.

After brief coaching on how to prepare for use of the colonic equipment, you will begin your 40 minute colonic session. (See Video to see how the colonic works.) The final segment of the process is to allow your body to “drain” any excess water it may be holding, time to dress and refresh with cup of an mineral or probiotic beverage or “hot tea”. Subsequent sessions last about 40-minutes and we plan 1 hour in the colonic room to allow time for you to dress afterwards.

Is it embarrassing?

The procedure is done with modesty for both the client and technician. A cover cloth is provided so that clients always maintain their personal dignity and integrity. The devices at Cleansing Waters are designed to be somewhat “self operating”. This means that once you are properly coached and aware of the procedure, you are in control of the process. The Technician remains present unless you prefer privacy. Sometimes the latter arrangement is helpful for the you to relax, and thereby have a more effective cleanse. Gentle massaging of the abdomen is helpful to move things along, or just to relax the muscles so that more water may be retained. A hot pad is also offered. Tips on breathing techniques, aromatherapy, and soothing background music all contribute to a pleasant visit.  A 15-30 minute SOQI Spa session prior to your colonic is suggested. The SOQI Spa stimulates lymphatic circulation and tones the colon while oxygenating the entire body. The warming, quiet, meditative session prepares the mind, emotions, and body for the cleansing colonic experience.

FAQ's

What kind of equipment do you use?

The Angel of Water is bringing internal cleansing into the 21st century with elegance, simplicity, and dignity. The gastroenterology devices used at Cleansing Waters has been developed with efficiency, integrity and quality of product as its goal. We provide an “Open System” which is registered for market as a medical device. An especially popular feature of our device is the rectal nozzle – it measures only 5/16” in diameter, is individually packaged, flexible, completely sterile and disposable. Another feature on the device is a state-of-the-art filtering system for the water. Both hot and cold water is filtered as it enters the device. As that filtered water enters the rectal nozzle it is sterilized by ultraviolet light. The water entering the body is as pure as possible. Our foremost concern is the client’s safety, comfort, modesty and cleanliness. Clinics and spas around the world have chosen the Angel of Water because it is the premier colon hydrotherapy system. And NOW Cleansing Waters has this beautiful and functional system available for your comfort and health.

Why does your first time package include two sessions?

Having one colonic is the first step towards renewed health and vitality. Magic bullet’ thinking says one colonic will open the floodgates and you will be home free. If it were that easy, colon therapists would not exist. It can be very challenging to have the contents of the colon flow out freely. Sometimes it takes work, repeated sessions close together to crack the nut or break the dam, not to mention the lifestyle and attitude changes.  Being anxious and the feeling of the unknown can affect the results as well.  Occasionally after the first colonic someone may experience a headache or bloating depending on their level of toxicity. All of these situations can be alleviated by having a second colonic 24-72 hours after the first.  You will feel more relaxed and the hydration will allow more waste to be eliminated.

How many Colonics do I need?

The number of colonics you need depends on your goals, intestinal health, dietary habits and lifestyle choices. Many of us have a considerable amount of impacted waste in our colon accompanied with muscle, nerve, immune and hormone deficit. Substantial work must be done. The second and subsequent colonics may release more material as your body tunes into releasing, muscles become suppler, the area becomes more hydrated and bacterial/fungal sources of nerve damage are reduced.
We usually recommend an initial series of 3-4 especially for constipation treatment or if you have a chronic condition that has built up over years, it will depend on the results of the first and second colonic sessions. It is unlikely that a condition as with many symptoms will disappear completely after one 40-50 minutes of cleansing, but most people feel improvements (relieving constipation) after the first colonic. If you adopt dietary and lifestyle modifications, (as may be suggested) then the number of colonic irrigation or frequency of treatments may be reduced.
We generally recommend at least doing a series of 3 colonics to appreciate what colonics can do for your body. Some people initially need a series of 6-12 colonics to get the colon functioning well. Regular clients may have maintenance colonics from one a month to once every 3 months.

Is it necessary to take a “series” of colonics?

It depends on your objective. One or 2 colonics may be all that’s necessary to recover from travel, flu, fever, back or headache, transient constipation or a small fast or cleanse. However, overcoming lifelong constipation and/or redundancy, creating multiple bowel movements, overcoming illness and achieving vital health may require regular colonics for some time. It has taken years to create your current body condition. One has to factor in body condition, how well you respond, and possible needed lifestyle and attitude changes.

After your first and second colonic, you can discuss with the therapist how many sessions you might need and how often. Many people benefit from doing a series of anywhere from 5-25 colonics to bring the body back into balance. A recommended protocol is 2 the first week, 2 the second week and one for 3 more weeks. A maintenance plan is then determined based on the individual condition. Keep an open mind, be open to what you might experience, what you might learn about yourself and your intestines through this process.

Does Colon Therapy wash out the good bacteria or other nutrients in the colon?

Colon Therapy will cleanse the good and bad bacteria from the bowel – but so does a regular bowel movement. Because we are cleansing large amounts of toxins and fecal matter from the bowel, the environment to re-establish the good bacteria is much better. Nutrient absorption is also considerably better in a clean environment than a putrefied one. Just in case, we believe it is important to take probiotics (good bacteria) after receiving colonics and as part of your daily regimen.

Who can benefit from Colon Hydrotherapy?

Nearly everyone can benefit from Colon Hydrotherapy. The colon is one of five eliminative organs in the body. Colonics are an excellent and safe way of eliminating toxins from the body and the less toxins we have in the body the healthier we will be and the stronger our immune systems will be.

Will this cause my bowels not to eliminate on its own?

Absolutely not! Because Colon Therapy exercises the colon creating better peristalsis (muscle contraction) it will actually help it to function and eliminate much better.

Will I experience any side effects?

Most clients feel much lighter and more energetic. Occasionally someone temporarily experience slight headache or fatigue due to detoxification. This why we require two initial colonics.

Is it safe?

Colon therapy is very safe especially when performed by a certified colon therapist. The water is introduced at a low gravitational pressure level, so there is no danger of bowel perforation. All equipment is either disposable or disinfected using hospital approved disinfectant solutions, which kill all viruses, bacteria or fungi. The rectal nozzle is only entered into the first 1 ½-2inches of the rectum so there is no risk of perforating the bowel like during a colonoscopy. We use filtered and purified water. Colon hydrotherapy, unlike the use of laxatives, is not habit forming and actually improves the tone and overall colon health.

Will Colonics Fix Chronic Constipation and my Digestion?

Colon hydrotherapy is a tool. It is a powerful tool that gives you a head start in improving your diet, lifestyle and exercise regime. However, a tool is only as good as the person using it. If you use colonics to help your body improve, feel younger and work more effectively, then this is what you will achieve. However, if you use colonic irrigation as roadside assistance only, then you will achieve a short-term rather than a long-term improvement.

Does Colonic Hydrotherapy Hurt?

No, In fact many people report their colon hydrotherapy sessions as being both refreshing and relaxing.  At the start of the procedure, you may experience a “strange” sensation of wanting to go to the toilet, but most people get used to this feeling in the first few minutes. Occasionally an individual will feel cramping prior to a release due to gas or wastes moving down the intestinal tract. It does not last but a few moments.  Drinking soda and coffee can increase cramping and discomfort.

How does a colon hydrotherapy treatment compare to an enema?

An enema only reaches the rectum and lower part of the colon, whereas with colon hydrotherapy the entire length of the colon is reached and it is many more times effective. According to learned centenarian Dr. Norman Walker, “one colon irrigation is equivalent to 30 enema’s.”

How much of the intestines are actually cleansed during a colon hydrotherapy treatment?

It is possible to cleanse the entire length of the colon during a professionally administered session. The small intestine is not specifically involved; however, the small intestine may be cleansed with the help of an oral intestinal cleanser.

Are there any contraindications to colon hydrotherapy using the Angel of Water for colonics?

If you have a concern about your health or the appropriateness of colon hydrotherapy for you, you should consult your physician or licensed healthcare practitioner. Contraindications for the use of the Angel of Water include, but may not be limited to: recent colon, rectal or abdominal surgery, congestive heart failure, intestinal perforations, carcinoma of the rectum, fissures or fistula, severe hemorrhoids, abdominal hernia, renal insufficiency, first or last trimester of pregnancy and cirrhosis of the liver. Professionally administered colon hydrotherapy is otherwise very safe.

Is there any possibility of bacterial or viral contamination from prior use of the colon hydrotherapy equipment?

The Angel of Water system uses single-use, sterile rectal nozzles. The use of sterile disposables coupled with the implementation of the Angel of Water’s multi-stage sanitation protocol with EPA registered disinfectants leaves no danger of contamination.

Does having a menstrual period at the time of colon hydrotherapy session have any effect on the experience?

No. Some consider it a good time to have session since your body is already cleansing. Your flow will not interfere with the success of the session. However, some women prefer to wait until after their period is over to do a cleansing session. We recommend that you not use a tampon during your colonic session.

What should I do to prepare for a colon hydrotherapy cleansing?

- DO eat something early in the day. 2.)Refrain from eating about

- Refrain from eating about 2 hours before the cleansing.

- We strongly advise to avoid coffee and carbonated beverages as they can make you more gassy and acidic, which in turn will make you more crampy.

- Be as relaxed as possible and maintain a positive, cheerful attitude.

Will I experience any intestinal discomfort or fatigue after the cleansing?

Usually not, but everyone is different. Some report a slight feeling of tiredness, but this is similar to the feeling you have after exercising vigorously. After a session, sipping warm liquids is usually very soothing. If you have concerns, consult with your colon hydrotherapist.

Can I work directly after having colon hydrotherapy?

Yes. You can work just as you would after a regular bowel movement.

What is the difference between a colonic, colon hydrotherapy, and colonic irrigation?

All of these terms describe the cleansing of the colon. We use the terms interchangeably but most often say “colonics.”

After a colonic, will I need to be close to the toilet all day?

Usually clients release everything while they are in our office as there is time to finish on the toilet before you go. There can be exceptions to this, of course, but most clients continue their day without urgency to eliminate.

Can I have a colonic if I am pregnant?

Yes, if you are between 3- 6 months pregnant. The chances of miscarriage are highest during the first trimester, so it is best to play it safe. As the pregnancy progresses, increased progesterone may slow peristalsis so constipation may ensue. Colonics may help with this. However, after 6 months, colonics may induce premature labor and too much fluid in the membranes surrounding the fetus may put pressure on the diaphragm and cause extreme discomfort. Please discuss this with your therapist if you have any concerns.

How soon after the childbirth can I have a colonic? Can I have one while nursing?

Wait at least 6 weeks to heal and recover from childbirth before having a colonic. You can have a colonic while you are nursing. If you are coming in because you are constipated, a colonic is much better than a laxative. You don’t want your baby to feel the effects of a laxative, and everything you consume orally will pass through the breast milk.

Will I lose weight?

You will lose waste. Ridding the body of excess waste helps your body to metabolize more efficiently. You will become more conscious of what foods you are putting in to your body and how your body processes those foods. Many clients improve their diet and exercise regime when they start having colonics.

What can I eat after a colonic?

We encourage you to eat healthy food such as nourishing soups, fruits, or steamed vegetables. Avoid alcohol, spicy bean dishes, heavy animal protein, dairy, and especially sweets.

Are colonics covered by my medical insurance?

Unfortunately, colonics are not covered by medical insurance. Some flex-spending healthcare plans do cover colon hydrotherapy. Check with your provider.

Why is colon cleansing so crucial?

We are all exposed to thousands of toxins and chemicals on a daily basis at work, in the home, through the air we breathe, our food and water supply and through the use of pharmaceutical drugs. In addition, we are eating more sugar and processed foods than ever before in human history and regularly abuse our bodies with various stimulants and sedatives. By cleaning the colon, you are decreasing the general toxicity of your body and supporting your liver to function more efficiently. It’s like changing the oil in your car on a regular basis.

Do you recommend supplements after a colonic session?

Each client has different needs and after a session we may offer suggestions that we think will help you and your colon. Products we might recommend include, minerals, probiotics and digestive enzymes. If you are on a cleanse or have specific constipation issues, we may suggest temporarily using herbs to support movement. Clients may already be taking appropriate supplements and sometimes clients may not need to supplement with anything.

Will a colonic make me constipated or give me diarrhea?

Sometimes if there is a full release during your session, you may not have a bowel movement the next day, as we have emptied your colon of most solid waste. This doesn’t mean that you are constipated. On the other hand, if you do not fully release during a session there may be residual water in your colon that you release later in the day.

I’m worried that I could become dependent on colonics. If I have too many, will the colon stop functioning on its own? Are colonics habit forming?

Actually, colonics have a toning effect on the colon. They stimulate the colon muscles and remind them how to work. Physically, colonics are not habit forming. Your body will not become reliant on them to eliminate.

“Every tissue is fed by the blood, which is supplied by the intestinal system. When the intestines are dirty, the blood is dirty and so are the organs and the tissues. It is the intestinal system that has to be cared for before any effective healing can take place.” – Dr. Bernard Jensen
